What happens if you do not eat sugar for 8 weeks?

Your body will burn stored fat for fuel, vs using sugar/carb intake. You would most likely lose weight. If that’s your goal, and this is a weight lose plan for you, it can be an easy diet or a hell diet, depending on the person and what foods they enjoy eating.

I love sugar so for me, the diet was difficult and I felt awful. I was fatigued, low energy and motivation, headaches, and just didn’t feel good on it. After four weeks, I ate a big cookie and almost passed out. I stopped at that time and lost about 15 pounds total.

My husband (now ex) did VERY well. This was around 2003 and Atkins was the “cult” diet- meaning everyone you knew and worked with was talking about it, was on it, or had been on it- that’s what I mean by “cult” diet- it was very popular. When you stop eating sugar and carbs, your body no longer has that intake for fuel and energy. You begin a process called ketosis, where stored fat is burned for fuel (aka keytones). Ridding your body of stored fat causes weight loss.

my husband liked meat, cheese, nuts, and something salty like chips. He was not a huge sugar consumer to begin with but a lot of bread, potatoes and other starches, beer, and pasta. He grilled outside year round, through snow, sleet, rain, etc. He was nicknamed Fred Flintstone by the neighbors (the Flintstone’s cartoon opening showed Fred‘s car tipping over because of a huge rack of ribs), and absolutely ate ribs several nights a week. He was 6’0” tall (1.82 meters), was overweight at 305 pounds with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. He stuck to the diet, and never cheated. He did really well because he was never hungry, was able to eat things he loved and enjoyed, didn’t have to eat “low-fat” things like salad dressings or mayonnaise. It’s full fat everything. After 6 to 8 months, he was down to 180 pounds, tests showed his high blood pressure resolved, cholesterol levels were in a great range, his sleep apnea improved, and he had tons of energy. He is very large boned- 180 was too thin for him. His doctor agreed, he gained back 19 pounds and remained at 199 for years (couldn’t have that “2” in front). Today, he’s halfway back to maximum density, but that’s another story!
